Where Tradition Meets Legacy - The Story of Tin and Lint

Tin & Lint opened in 1970 in Saratoga Springs, New York, when Tom Malone, Dale Easter, and Davis Mead purchased a small, unnamed bar and transformed it into a lively gathering place. The bar quickly became a cornerstone of the city’s counterculture scene, attracting a diverse crowd of locals, college students, musicians, and bikers. In 1990, longtime bartender Jim Stanley took over ownership, maintaining its original charm and ensuring it remained a beloved local institution.

The atmosphere at Tin & Lint is that of a classic dive bar, featuring dim lighting, carved wooden benches, and walls adorned with decades of memorabilia. Patrons enjoy affordable drinks, friendly service, and a laid-back vibe that has remained unchanged for over 50 years.

American Pie

In 1971, singer-songwriter Don McLean scribbled the first lines of American Pie on a bar napkin while sitting in Tin & Lint, a historic bar in Saratoga Springs, New York. Inspired by the emotional impact of Buddy Holly’s death and the cultural shifts of the 1960s, McLean began shaping what would become one of America’s most iconic songs. The bar now proudly displays a plaque marking the booth where musical history was made.
